THE LIBRARY -- A Poem

THE LIBRARY -- A Poem

IMG_5812.jpeg

Summer is almost gone and I ain’t even mad. I’m looking forward to cozy Autumn library dates and the opportunity to resurrect my favorite yellow beanie from the storage grave. Here’s a poem I wrote almost a year ago that might help you move on to Fall and all things crisp and warm with me.

THE LIBRARY

Sink with me

into the canvas surfaces

of old master paintings

Drink with me

from the nectar

of the poets and scribes

Think with me

over the glossy pages

of far away places

Blink with me

for the wonder of words

bound covers and new worlds

In tuxedo jackets

and red gypsy skirts

In leather or lace

Depending on the place

Why, it isn’t Plato’s Cave

Books have colors

Books have names

     no hollow shadows

    cast by hungry flames

Rather a thousand doors

     — hung into magical frames

And my favorite door

    — at my very core

Is reading with you

On library floors

Turning the pages and years

the pages of fears

the pages of triumph and glory

Turning pages with you

My Love

My favorite story
